After drilling the holes the hood dropped right into the holes just drilled into the hood so I was fairly comfortable opening the holes to the correct size for the top part of the Quick Latch. The instructions said to drill a 7/16" hole in the hood from the bottom all the way through the hood but I only did 3/8" because I wanted to make sure I had the holes positioned correctly above the pins. I put some of the better half's fingernail polish on top of the pins and lowered the hood to mark where you need to drill the holes. Then I fabricated a bracket that would bolt to available holes in the core support out of some 1-1/2"x 3/16" flat stock I had sourced to practice my welding.I drilled a hole right in the middle of the opening to mount the latch pins.I have a couple pics of these if you want to see them.Īfter installing the brackets and the pins ,I put some tape on the hood in the area where the bumpers touched the hood. Since the only place to mount the Quick Latch pins was where the hood bumpers were located,I removed the OEM hood bumpers and plastic keepers. In other words, I wanted something I could reverse back to factory to use a unmodified hood. Also if I want to go back to the factory hood bumper set up sometime in the future I can. Also the bumpers appear to be equally centered on the hood(side of hood to center of latch and front of hood to latch). I decided to use this area because of the hood dimension and also because it appeared to meet another qualifier which was the minimum distance from the top of the hood to the pin installed height is greater than 1 1/8". The only place on my fiberglass hood that was thin enough was right over the hood bumper(s). I have no idea why and really the website doesn't address this either. The provided instructions state you need to find a place on your hood that is less than 5/8" thick. Here is what I did and a brief explanation of why. First off,I don't generally post how to articles because I'm not a engineer just a shade tree kinda of mechanic. I decided to go ahead and try to get my Quick Latches installed today.
